Anyway, so many things happened to us. We had an awesome summer going camping, wish I had the chance to blog every experience we had since it was pretty neat to look back. One incident that stands out though was during Father’s Day, I thought Blake had made an early reservations at Alice Lake, but I dont know what happened. We arrived at Alice Lake around 9pm, expecting a spot but there was none. We had to wait for an hour for the park officer to show up and was told that we indeed have no spot. So we were told to go for another camping location closeby which ended up being full. Then we decided to head back to Porteau Cove and arrived there at 10:57 pm… 3 minutes before closing at 11pm . Thankfully the park officer was so nice to offer us the other parking lot to camp for the night and told us to come by at the office in the early morning (7am) to get a spot. We were both tired and grumpy with a little one that is grumpy too. We even forgot about dinner, thats why Aubrey was just not in a good mood. All she had in the car were goldfish snacks and juice. But amazingly we were able to put our tent up in seconds. Whew! sometimes its amazing what you can do during crisis!

It wasn’t a bad Father’s Day camping after all since we were able to join some activities at Alice Lake (although we had to drive from Porteau Cove) and we enjoyed it.

Also the summer took us to camp in Calgary, first we went to the zoo, look around and decided to move after Blake got a very good job offer. Then my opportunity came. So we sealed the deal of calling Calgary our new home. My first impression was…where’s the mountains? I love how its wide open! It reminds me of home (Cebu), Vancouver area is a very beautiful place but Calgary has its own beauty as well. When Blake took us North, overlooking the entire city was beyond beautiful especially at night(when lights are on). I dont know know what’s in Calgary that makes me feel Dejavu at times. Especially when our jar of pickles spilled in the car while moving and it smells like “inun-unan” in Cebu. Blake had to clean the car right away,  its was hard for him watching me homesick. We are in the middle of moving, starting a life in Calgary and going back home to visit is just not an option. I think reality weighs more than the longing of home. Besides Aubrey is old enough now to complain but still too young to understand. I couldnt imagine a 13 hrs flight to Hongkong yet not until shes a little bit older.

So here we are! of course it was not an easy decision to move, we had to put our condo for rent, our tenants ended up a nasty couple although one of them is a Filipina like me. But you know what, life has always bumps and turns. The Lord said: It would never be easy but it would be worth it.

Statistics shown that the brain starts to slow down after 30, that’s why they’re (the experts) encouraging everyone to maintain a healthy lifestyle with enough serving of fish, shellfish, beans, etc. in your diet, as well as to engage in a learning program constantly, like a new skill, language, music instrument and guess what suprisingly “blogging” is part of it! I was so happy to see that I could put a check mark beside it though I dont blog that often, but hey at least I do it sometimes. But you know what everytime I blog, it feels good and it helps you think as well, now I know why its part of the whole brain’s health. Well, having a B- on my brain’s grade was so encouraging for me to work on getting my brain’s optimum health and performance back. And its only just a matter of maintaining a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, enough sleep, reading a book, blogging, maybe learn a new recipe (that’s learning something new already) and it is taking good care of your heart too, since What’s Good for your Brain is Good for your Heart and vice versa.


First time I saw Sarah Palin’s Alaska, I was amazed how I got glued to the couch for 3 hours. I dont watch TV shows this long these days anymore especially when I have two babies (My little girl and just started out a business) to take care of.  I usually just watch the news at 6:00 pm and then off to my never-ending duties. I really like how Sarah is so outdoorsy. When they showed them catching fish, it made me remember my childhood days. I didnt had much experience hunting cariboos or something but when I was a child, together with the neighbours kids we used to climb mountains to get firewoods and pick wild fruits coming home. Our Saturday’s are filled with outdoor adventures, we were six back then 4 of the neighbours kids, my brother and myself. We used to call ourselves and pretend to be “Ewolks” (it was the hit cartoon show back then) also one of the kids like to sling birds and roast them, I was the only girl so I get to watch while they do all the work, but I was tough too back then, I could easily beat up one of the boys when I had to. It was a lot of fun. I love the outdoors very much and watching Sarah’s show rekindled my outdoorsy spirit. Especially when its Alaska, wow its so pretty up there! me and my husband were thinking to move to Alaska and fish, hahaha I dont think it would work since he’s not a fisherman. I remember when my Dad took me and my brother fishing in a canoe, I just couldn’t stay at the ocean longer since feeling seasick is just not fun. I dont mind going shell fishing at the seashore or bait fishing.

Sarah is just so blessed to enjoy all the nature could offer in Alaska with her family and watching her show made me feel blessed as well to witness such family, work ethic, especially the fishing, hunting and the rest. Its such a good family show, I’ll give her a 10 for it. Also, her book “The Trailblazer” was awesome too, I was glad to secure a copy from the library, it was nice to know how Sarah became the way she is, very remarkable lady in every way.

I got at the location well ahead of schedule which gives me enought time to browse my business plan. The receptionist told me that since I am the first one of the day they might be running behind and expect delays. I was thinking thats good at least it gives me a little time to get prepared. Then it came, I had to walk with the program director to face them, with my nerves I accidentally thrown my presentation cards on the floor, in my head I was thinking, this is it, a very bad impression to start, glad I numbered them and so I was able to proceed without much trouble. I greeted them and handed my business cards, I was very nervous, I couldnt stop thinking, am I here for real or this couldnt be a dream. I proceeded with my presentation and then to Q & A portion. One of the ladies started off by criticizing offensively, her words were a little harsh but thankfully I have been watching the Dragon’s Den so many times that I was able to keep everything to myself. She went on and on and all I did was listen and tried to answer their questions to the best of my ability. I even sometimes ask them back, like about my pricing, they were claiming that “it is too low” and I should think of sustainaibility as well as penetrating into the market quickly, I asked “what would you recommend in what range of the spectrum I should start looking into”. I saw the other lady smiled at me which helped control my nerves a little bit. They like to get under your skin, which I was glad I was able to be open-minded enough, to accept their criticims as their way of helping the business.

Then the program director signalled that my time was up, I was thinking “already?” I wish I could have more time with these guys though they were a little bit harsh but their inputs were so valuable to my business since they’re all business owners with years of experience under their belts. When I walked out the door, I felt like “it wasn’t enough” I want to talk to them more, but that was it, my time was over, I just love new ideas and new stuff especially for people with so much information and experience to give, but I had my time and that was enough. Our program director asked me to wait outside while they’re trying to decide if I did make it or not. I waited for not even a minute and then he came and told me, you have to celebrate tonight, you’re approved on the spot! I started shaking…I couldn’t believed it and then I went inside and thank them. Wow! what an experience, I felt like in a cloud 9. I called my husband right away and he was so happy. We should celebrate, he was telling me over the phone, I just simply said, yeah maybe, I still have to drive an hour away for a very important stuff. Also, I still have to come back to school for a roundtable networking event where I got 6 customers that are interested with my services. Cool stuff.

Driving home, I just couldn’t stop being soo happy. I’ve never been happy like this before while working. I know there is a fine line between “not making it” and being successful in business. Although, there are a lot of success stories  but the opposite outweighs the number. In life is all about choices, as long as you can choose for yourself, since sometimes things will just be thrown at you. I think as long as I have all the things I need to make this business work, I am determined to do everything I can to be among the success stories of this endeavour.

They said that getting into business is a one never-ending process, you cant really say I am done with my business plan for good. When customers started coming, you get to learn each and every piece that a business “can make it or break it” from them. Thankfully my first customer helped me to “make it”.
